Interview with Alan, Feb 16 2008
OiNKv2: Hey Alan. Please give us an Update on OiNK.
Alan: When I set up the site I didn’t think I was doing anything illegal
and I still don’t. There are 180,000 users and there has been an outcry
about what has happened to me. We are returning end of February.
OiNKv2: That is good news to hear that you are returning with the Site.
Do you think Torrent Sites have a Future because music industry
is so much after them.
Alan: People who download music also buy CDs as well. A lot of people
download music on the internet to get a taste of it and then later buy the CDs.
OiNKv2: Why did it take so long to bring OiNK back?
Alan: We had to overcome several legal difficulties to ensure user safety
and site team safety. That is why we rely on donations to bring OiNK back.
There will be some changes we will announce shortly.
We are thankful for everybody who donated as of now but we also need
some more money to start OiNK mirrors so OiNK will never be down again.
OiNKv2: How much did it cost to bring OiNK back?
Alan: As of now we have spent over 10,000 GBP.
OiNKv2: How much of it was donations?
Alan: Only about 2,000 GBP sadly.
OiNKv2: So you are spending your own money on bringing OiNK back?
Alan: Yes we´ve had to because we want an active and lively OiNK
as it´s our main aim in music to share it with others.
OiNKv2: What is the difference between OiNK and Google?
Alan: There is no real difference. We are only platforms for the users
and it´s up to them what they make with it. The market decides what is
good and the market says: "We want to listen to the music before we
buy it". Music Industry has not yet found a way to address this market
they are quite confused. So today you have to "google" or "oink" for new
music since there is nothing like it by the music industry.
OiNKv2: Will the old Logins and Passwords still work, are the Forums still
there, the Torrents, the Bookmarks?
Alan: Yes it is all there from a backup we took one day before the sad event.
OiNKv2: We are happy that you did not give in and are bringing OiNK back!
Alan: No comment whether it´s me bringing OiNK back or some friends, but
yes we are all enthusiastic about OiNK coming back finally.
OiNKv2: Can we support you with OiNK?
Alan: Yes please donate to http://oink.pytalhost.com and if it´s from
your OiNK-eMail Address you will automatically be credited VIP Status for
Donations over eur20. As well as the other benefits. If you use a different
email Address please tell us the Transaction ID once we´ve emailed you the
new URL for the site. We will make sure all donators who helped us in bringing
OiNK back will be credited and remembered. Thanks for your help Guys in the
Forums and Blogs and end of February OiNK is back for you! The wait is over!
Ratios, Forums, Torrents have all been restored from a 22/10 Backup and everything is running as before on 2 servers at the new URL.
The down time has already happened and OiNK did not give in! Cute Avatars are still a must!
All donators receive VIP Status for OiNK and a custom title in the Site so you will always be known for being one of chosen few who rescued OiNK! You will go in history and will be mentioned on the new OiNK Memorial VIP Members Page with a Photo of you or your cat/dog as you wish. You also get the new OiNK URL earlier!
There is a new advanced search feature, you can save your advanced searches and we have re-worked the top10 for being more effective so you can always see what great albums have been released in the last weeks. We have also written a plug-in so you can surf major music sites like Amazon and directly download the album from OiNK in FLAC or v0 quality for free.
Please take the poll to decide if OiNK in future should also cover Hollywood Movies and DVD/Bluray/HDTV Movies and if so on the same site or on an OiNK Sister site.
Because moo just doesn`t sound right and we enjoy the waffles by our grandmas (Grandma, I love you!). These are the waffles that taste really good according to everybody it is the number 1 for waffles, on a sidenote. So there is no "what to use instead of oink". OiNK and nothing else!
All donation money if not used for the server to bring back OiNK and server enhancements will be given to OiNK users in legal problems, free p2p campaigns and to OiNK and TooMuchTime.
